About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Darian Dozier, and like you, I’m on a journey to being a physician. My journey has been anything but easy, and even a little nontraditional at times, so I’m here to share my story, hear yours, and help make this journey a little easier one laugh at a time.

Darian Dozier, about me
Darian Dozier, About Me

I am originally from the midwest, but I now attend school in the south. Before medical school, I worked a myriad of jobs. I have a huge passion for sports and worked as a Women’s Basketball Manager all throughout college. This was a really fun job as I got to travel all over the country, and even to a couple of other countries. I also learned the value of teamwork, and understanding that every role on the team has its purpose.

During college, I also worked in a research lab, was an orientation leader, and joined a sorority. I made sure to really enjoy my college experience, eating up every part of it that I could.

During my senior year of college, I applied to medical school, but ultimately did not get in. It was really disappointing, but I took a year to get my life together. Throughout my time off, I worked as a mental health tech and a substitute teacher. Each of these experiences taught me a lot, and will contribute to me as a physician.

Current Venture

Melanated and Meducated is my little baby! It’s my quarantine project that I would like to one day lead the charge in creating diversity in medicine. The world of medicine can be pretty exclusive, and I want to change that. By making information about applying to medical school more accessible, I hope to help close the gap, and give more students a fighting chance.

I’m by no means an expert, and all opinions shared are my own opinion. But, I’m an expert in ME and I want to share with you all that I’ve learned about Me and this experience. I plan on rolling out a lot of content on different platforms, as well as some tools and apparel that will help you really maximize your experience.

I am also a Freelance writer, and have been published on other mediums. You may check out my portfolio at the link below. If you think my writing would be a good fit for you website, please, don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected].

Octate Wellness

In addition to providing information about medical school, I am also launching Octate Wellness. Octate Wellness is my new business focusing on the eight dimensions of wellness: Physical, Social, Spiritual, Financial, Vocational, Emotional, Intellectual, and Environmental. Octate Wellness is focused on improving student wellness through reflection, mindfulness, and the lost art of writing. Apps and the internet are amazing, but writing engages so much more of our brains, helping us truly become intune with who we are and where we can improve. Octate Wellness will be a series of workbooks and other materials designed to help increase productive and wellness in the eight dimensions, designed for students but useful for everyone.

So, let’s learn, live and laugh together as we stumble through this thing called life, one step at a time.
